Before and After
Patients who have lost a massive amount of weight whether with diet and exercise or Bariatric Surgery are left with a large amount of loose hanging skin. This usually involves the mid and lower body including the abdomen, hips, back, and thighs. This appearance makes it difficult for the patient to be happy with their weight loss. Patients often become depressed because it is difficult to find clothing that fits properly and the hanging skin often results in skin irritation and discomfort. Body Lift- Belt Lipectomy removes, lifts and elevates the excess and sagging skin from these areas to restore, reshape and re-contour the abdomen, hips, back and thighs. A Body Lift performed by Dr. Williams will restore your body and self- confidence.
Your Consultation with Dr. Williams
Dr. Williams feels that the most important part of the consultation is to listen to you and understand what you want to achieve. During your consultation, Dr. Williams will discuss with you and explain the procedure and your expected results. Each of the possible options for the surgery will also be explained. Depending upon your goals, alternatives, as well as additional procedures, may be recommended. The goal is for you to be fully informed so that you are confident that the choice you make is the right one to give you the result you want.
Candidates for Surgery
It is important that a patient’s weight is stable for at least 3 months and that they are at or close their weight goal. Most people have lost 80-100 or more pounds of weight. There is excess sagging skin of the abdomen, hips, back, and thighs. Prior to this surgery, the patient should be in good nutritional health.
Body Lift-Belt Lipectomy Surgery
The exact type and extent of the surgery depend upon the specific areas and amount of loose hanging skin. The surgery is usually a combination of procedures that may be done at the same time or done in stages. A Circumferential Tummy Tuck is a Tummy Tuck that extends around the hips 360 degrees to the lower back. This procedure not only removes the hanging skin from the abdomen but also from the hips and lower back to shape and contour this entire mid and lower back area. The stretched and loose abdominal muscle are sutured and tightened. At the same time, the upper buttock and upper lateral thigh are lifted. Liposuction is often done at a later time with the removal of persistent and localized fat. As a result of the weight loss, the buttocks often has lost fullness and shape. The fat from the Liposuction may be used for augmentation of the Buttocks to give improved fullness and contour ie: Brazilian Buttock Lift (BBL). The hanging skin of the inner thighs is treated with a separate Thigh Lift.
Recovery After Body Lift-Belt Lipectomy
Recovery will depend on the type and extent of the surgery performed. Most people can return to light activity after about 3 weeks. Full complete recovery may however take several months. A compression garment will be worn for about a month after surgery. This helps to decrease swelling, helps the skin and tissue heal and give support after surgery.
Planning Your Procedure
The procedure is performed at the Plastic Surgery Center. This is performed in a nationally accredited (AAAASF) surgical facility. This ensures that the surgery is done in complete privacy and that it is done with the highest quality of patient safety standards for ambulatory surgery. Prior to surgery, all cases are reviewed in conjunction with Dr. Williams and Anesthesia. Depending upon your present health and the type of procedure planned it may be necessary to have lab work done prior to surgery.
Dr. Williams will discuss with you and give you instructions for before and after your surgery. The surgery is outpatient surgery. That means that you will be able to go home after the surgery. It will be necessary for you to have a caregiver with you for 24 hours after your surgery. This is to ensure your safety and that all necessary post-operative instruction are followed. If you do not have a caregiver, arrangements can be made for this. Dr. Williams understands that patients and their caregivers often have anxiety, concerns, and questions after surgery. Dr. Williams is always available 24 hours a day to respond to you. Every effort is made throughout to make certain that you have a great experience and that you obtain your best possible desired result.
