As a result of aging, sun damage or weight loss the face develops an aging and often tired appearance. The skin and deep tissue and muscles loose their elasticity. The face develops laxity and sagging. This results in a loss of definition of the cheekbones and jowls of the lower cheeks. There is loss a well defined jaw line and deep folds and lining of the lower cheeks and mouth. A Face Lift removes excess and sagging skin and elevates and tightens muscles and deep tissue laxity. Dr Williams can counteract the effects of time and gravity and help restore you to a more youthful and natural appearance.

- Your face is making you look tired.
There are many options for Face Lift surgery. The type of the procedure will depend upon the condition of the individual patient and the goals that are wanted to be achieved. The new and advanced techniques of Face Lift Lift focus on the elevation and fixation of the deep tissue and muscles of the face, rather than pulling on the skin. It is known that the skin is attached to the deep facial tissue and muscle. When this deep tissue is suspended and tightened the skin is elevated with it without pulling or tension. Patients who have Face Lifts with only pulling and tightening of the skin look like they have been out in a wind storm. The new type of Face Lift strives for a natural rejuvenation of the face.
Types of Face Lifts
The SMAS is the fibrous layer over the deep tissue and muscles of the face. The skin is attached to the SMAS. The SMAS is partially elevated from the deep tissue and muscle of the face. The laxity of the face is corrected by by suturing the lower portion of the SMAS to the more superior portion of the SMAS. The skin is elevated with suspension of the SMAS. The incisions for this are usually in the temple scalp, around the ear and into the scalp behind the ear.
MACS Face Lift ( Minimal Access Cranial Suspension).
This is one of the newest Face Lift procedures originally developed in Europe and used by Dr. Williams. This technique places multiple sutures in the SMAS without separating the SMAS form the deep tissue. The SMAS with the attached skin is then elevated and sutured to the Temple Fascia and Cranial bone. This technique gives a very stable fixation for a longer lasting and natural Face Lift. The incision for this procedure is called "short scar" . The incision stops at the lower earlobe instead of extending behind the ear.
Mini Face Lift- Week End Lift S-Lift
The elevation and suspension of the deep tissue is mostly in the the mid cheek. The skin removed is limited to the lateral cheek in front of the ears. This procedure is for patients with early sagging and laxity. It is for patients that do not need improvement of the jaw line or neck. The incision for this is the “short scar”
Neck Lift Surgery- Platysmaplasty
With aging and weight loss there is laxity of the muscles and skin of the neck. Vertical Bands are seen from below the chin. With sagging there is a loss of a defined jawlin. A neck lift is often done in combination with the Face Lift. The procedure tightens the muscle of the neck to create a corset defines the chin and jaw line. The skin is re-draped behind the ear and the excess skin removed. A Neck Lift defines the facial rejuvenation.
Often with aging and weight loss there is a loss of soft tissue fulness in different areas of the face. This loss gives a tired and unhealthy appearance. This soft tissue loss and depression is often seen along the jawline just lateral to the chin. There is often a loss of fullness or a hollow appearance of the cheeks and lower eyelids. Fat grafting f these areas is often done with the Face Lift to create a softer and more youthful look.
Recovery after Face Lift
There will be swelling and bruising. This is decreased by keeping the head elevated and applying cold compresses to the face. Anti swelling medication is given to decrease the swelling. Skin glue is applied to the incisions so the patient can shower the day after surgery. Normal activity can be resumed between 1-2 weeks after surgery. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 4-5 weeks.

Commonly Asked Questions About Face Lift Surgery
How Long Does a Face Lift Last?
You will always look better at any age after a Face Lift than never had one. Normal aging and gravity continues to occur after a Face Lift. It does not prevent the aging process so that you may notice recurrent laxity and an aging appearance seven to ten years later. Natural hereditary, health factor and sun damage are the major predictors of recurrent sagging. Thicker and oilier skin will have less laxity with time than thin skin.
What Is the Best Age to Have a Face Lift
The major consideration is not how old you are but the appearance of your face and your goals regarding improvement. Several studies have shown that Face Lift results last longer when the surgery is done at a younger age. Once lining of the facial skin has become deep a Face lift will not correct these. To improve facial lines other procedures such a peels, Dermabrasion and or injectable tissue fillers may be done. The most common age for a face lift is mid forties-fifties.
What Is the Role of Fat Injection or Injectable Fillers in Face Lift Surgery?
It has more recently become recognized that as you age there is usually a loss of volume in different areas of the face. This soft loss results in a lack of a youthful fullness of the face. This is most often noticed with loss of prominence of the cheeks and a depression in the lateral mouth and chin. Removal and tightening of the skin will not correct these areas. Restoring the soft tissue loss can be done with injectable hyaluronic acid type of fillers such as Volume, Lift etc. These types of injectable fillers are not permanent and usually need to be redone after one-two years. An alternative to the injectable filler is to inject your own fat. The advantage of fat is that there is usually an ample amount of your own fat and is often less expensive than the injectable fillers. Both the injectable fillers and fat injection is often done at the time of the Face Lift Surgery.
